Hundreds of Ball State Students will soon pack into the Field and Sports Center to
celebrate all the money they have raised for Riley’s Children Hospital over the past few
months. This event, of course, is Ball State Dance Marathon, held on February 21 from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m.
“There’s just a huge sense of giving and caring,” sophomore Jacob Logeman, a
member of Dance Marathon’s tech committee and a DeHority resident, said. “It’s also the biggest student organization on campus, so that’s something to be proud of.”
As a member of the tech committee, Logeman has worked all year making promo
videos to recruit teams for the organization. A link to one of his favorite videos can be
found here.
“It was just a spontaneous video we randomly decided to throw together one day,”
he said. “It was a lot of fun to make and it ended up turning out really well.”
The main Dance Marathon event brings together many teams from many different
organizations all across campus. This year DeHority has a team, and it’s not too late to
become a member; sign up ends Jan. 31.
Freshman Sterling Andler, a member of the DeHority team, already signed up.
She said the process was quick and easy.
“The website is really well designed and easy to navigate,” Andler Said. “I signed up because all my friends were doing it, I enjoy dancing a lot, and it’s for a good cause.”
There’s no reason to be hesitant to join either, Logeman said.
“You don’t have to be able to dance at all. It’s not about how well you can dance,
it’s just about helping the kids at Riley,” Logeman said.
Logeman described some of the activities and games that will be provided besides
dancing, for those who’d rather not spend the night breaking it down.
“We open by meeting all the Riley family’s that we will be helping out. Then there is a talent featuring the kids. There are lots of games, and everyone learns a flashmob that we all perform together at the end of the night,” he said. “There are also meals and drinks provided throughout the night; the only thing is that you can’t sit down to eat. That’s the whole point of Dance Marathon, is to stay on your feet the whole time.”
For those still unsure about participating, Logeman will be hosting waffle parties
in the DeHority Exhibition Hall to raise money for Dance Marathon in the weeks leading up the main event. Students can stop by and chat with him and other Dance Marathon board members to get more in-depth details.

The registration deadline, Feb. 1, is fast approaching, but for those who are
unable to sign up by then, it might not be too late to get involved. Those who miss the cut-off to be part of a team may still be able to register as an independent dancer by getting in touch with the Independent Recruitment Director, Kimberly Forsythe.
“I’m just down to get my dance on,” Andler said.
