Senior history major Julia Ricci (fourth to the right of Charlie Cardinal) made three baskets and Honors College Dean James Ruebel (to the left of Julia) made one in the first annual Cardinal Deans' Shootout on Feb. 24. Each dean teamed up with a student from their college and competed against deans from other colleges in a 30-second free throw contest.
Ricci, who played basketball from second to eighth grade, said she responded quickly to an email invite for the event and was then selected to participate. "I figured it's my senior year," Ricci said. "You know, carpe diem."
She practiced shooting baskets the Sunday before the event, which was held during half-time of the men's basketball game versus Western Michigan.
"It was actually the first basketball game I've been able to go to since being at Ball State," Ricci said. "It was a lot of fun."
